copper brake pipe
« on: 22 June 2013, 18:25 »
Went to install my braided lines today and noticed that one of the 11mm flared nuts was starting to round. Gave it a go with the wrench but it was apparent that with a bit of force the nut would become worse.
Can the flared nuts be replaced on there own or do I need to somehow fabricate another pipe?

Where abouts is it?   probably means a new length of brake pipe.

Chris - it's the flared nut that connects the copper pipe to the flexi hose which goes to the caliper.

Does this copper pipe to straight to the master cylinder or is there another join further along the way? Just trying to see how much pipe I'll have to template and replace.

Jamie16v - used a 11mm Snap on wrench. I'm aware now that ideally an 11mm flare wrench would have been better but tbh I've never had an issue with these before. And the flared nut already had signs it had been rounded before hence why I went with little force initially only to notice it was just going to get worse.

The copper pipe goes to the ABS pump before the master cylinder

MC_PEA - thanks for the reply. Got a local scrappy that has a few Golf GTi's in so may take a gander down there at some point and see if I can source one and either use it (if it's in good condition), or at least make a template from it.
