1992 OBD1 VR6
Hi,
Rights so two weeks or so ago my Vr6 delevoped an intermittent problem where it would begin to cough, splutter and backfire then die and after a while would start and work fine only for the same symptoms to return shortly after. I scanned it while it was still dead and these are the codes that were shown.
1 of 2
00515 KWP1281
Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40)
Sporadic - Short Circuit to Earth
2 of 2
00513 KWP1281
Engine Speed Sensor (G28)
Static - No Signal
I assumed i could dismiss the speed sensor code because it wasnt running and get that all the time unless it scanned running. Now the hall sensor fault led me to check the distributor and the connector that feeds the sensor was cracked and had exposed wires so I got a brand new aftermarket distributor from the US ( manly because I couldn't source a second hand part anywhere ).
So it arrived yesterday and fitted it and it started and ran fine with no fault codes showing. Then 20 miles covered and it started misfiring again and died, worked then died again. Tried it this morning at it fired once then died. Scanned again and the same fault codes as above appeared. Went away to a job, came back and tried it once again and it started and ran fine. Tried messing about with every wiring connector under the bonnet but couldn't get it to cut out. No codes showing. Even took it to the end of the road and back but was fine. Didn't want to take it much further.
Any ideas? Fusebox relay? Have spares I can try from a VR I broke recently. ECU connection or even a fault within the ECU perhaps?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
