thats why i said go with 5 year plan m8, if thats what youve been told, have a read here as it may help

http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11201

This makes for some intresting reading but to be honest does not really provide a definative which is what I was after.  After reading this It would appear VW's official line is change at 120,000miles (no time limit) but dealers a recommending a change at 4 years.

On a side note, is there a recommended time on change of the water pump? would seem to make sense in doing this while the belt is off but wondered if like the belt there was a recommended mileage/time?

Just remember that the cambelt will last the lifetime of the engine.  :nerd:

Or is that the other way round?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Or perhaps more useful questions might be:

1) What time duration do VW officially say their belts are good for?
2) Why do they not state this in the user manual if a change at 4 years is so important?
3) Why do Audi state in their official litterature it is 5 years when the engine is the same?
4) Why do different dealers state different times
5) Finally a point I was pondering - do they say 4 years to get more work and fill their pockets when the product may not need changing so soon?

I for one have had to many dealings with garages (including main dealers) who's favourite pass time seems to be the informing of customers of works required to be carried out to their cars when it is not necessery!

You dont ask the questions, you dont get the answers.... simples

VW officially told me at my 3rd service (3yrs 1 mth) 55k miles that I have 23 months left. So they are telling me that its 5 years/120,000 miles.  I said are you sure and they said 2010 models onwards are 5yrs not 4yrs. I have printed evidence on their service sheet that states 23 months left for Cam belt.

This is quite helpful and does seem to explain why there may be mixed information about.  If at all possible would you be able post a copy of the confirmation up on here?
