NEWBIE/Driver Footwell full of water
« on: 31 May 2013, 21:45 »
Hi

I have a mk5 GTi, absolutely love it!

My gf got in the other day and said that it smelt bad, I then discovered today that the drivers footwell is soaking wet (and I do mean soaking wet). It doesn't have a smell and levels look fine so it's not brake/coolant/washer fluid and no liquid tracking down the pedals.

What I cant find is where the air con drain is? Do you reckon its this or what else should I check?

I would really appreciate any suggestions/advice.

Thanks
Ross

With the door open, run a hose pipe down the out side of the window. The water that gets past the window scraper should run out through the drain holes in the bottom of the door and run over the outer cill. If the inner door panel seal is leaking, or the drain holes are blocked, water will run out from behind the door card, over the inner cill and soak into the carpet.

If this is happening you need to take the door card off and either replace the seal on the inner panel, or squirt a bead of silicone around it, then ensure that the doors drain holes are clear.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
