I'm sure I read a few years ago that you can pick up your new VW from Wolfsburg. Is this still the case?

I don't think you can pick UK cars up from there, could be wrong mind? You can definately collect euro cars from there though, very impressive!

You were able to do it and I think you still can but they charge you about £300 for the privilege. Maybe it's for German orders only - how could you drive it all the way back to the UK unregistered? Not sure that's possible, but they could register your German VW for you to drive from the plant. Probably domestic orders only.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

No you can't, I asked Wolfsburg just in case I bought a MK7 and you can only do it you're buying Germany or Austria - think VeeDub are missin a trick here. I wonder if its because some bits get added at the port, I know Toyota do that?

I tried to pick up my MK5 GTI but was told I couldn't as VW have to import the car to the UK and if I picked it up it would be me importing it.

However they did mention if I was buying a £50k Phaeton it would be OK

You can go to glass factory in Dresden to spec your Phaeton then go and take part in building process by pressing button for machine to put your full engine and running gear into chassis then go back and pick it up when complete.
