GTI Build week 22 - confirmed !
« on: 02 June 2013, 20:28 »
Unfortunately it's not mine !

Was in to my dealer this afternoon for a test drive of their GTI and afterwards had a chat about delivery times. Until today I hadn't chased him for a build week

My car is currently estimated BW 34 but a car from the same dealer is confirmed as BW 22.

Both cars were ordered at the same time (early April) but the other car is a pretty basic spec, no PP etc.
Where my car is quite well loaded and I added the climate screen a few weeks ago.

When I ordered my car I was told that my dealer had 3 early build slots and to expect my car by very late June if I was lucky but more likely sometime in July.

It seems that the discussions in other threads appear to be about right, an early adopter with a basic spec who was part of a dealers first allocation might just about get a car by the end of June. My order was still part of the dealers first allocation but my big spec and changes appear to have bumped me back a mightly long way. My build week is only an estimate and my dealer expects it to move forward from there. In fact his face was a picture when he realised how far off my car was. My P/X was agreed in April and he confirmed today that they would keep to the agreed figures. He went off to speak to his boss who is going to "personally" call Milton Keyes this week and try to improve my build week date.

My salesman is on holiday this week and I'm on holiday the week after so it might be several weeks before I know if they have made any progress.

Obviously I want my car as soon as possible, but as I know what I'm getting for my car in P/x if I have to wait then that's not the end of he world.  I might feel differently when I see this other guy driving round in his new GTI in a few weeks time !

that's one of the only consolations about a week 34 build, the guaranteed p/ex price. I doubt the personal phone call will do anything but I am expecting a couple of weeks move forward. one thing to watch for is the factory shutdown in august, does anyone know when this is ie week?

Not sure on the shutdown. Ford Southampton (home of the Transit Van) where I used to work has a 3 week shutdown, last week of July and first 2 weeks of August. That plant is closing this July and a lad I used to work with has just been sacked for twocing satnav units - losing out on £60k redundancy - f**kwit!

While builds like mine keep being pushed back a week at a time I suppose there's hope for the late week people having theirs moved forward. There must by some logic somewhere why mine got bumped back from BW26 to BW27 last week.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I had a guaranteed part ex price for my mk5 when I ordered my Mk6 GTD. I eventually took delivery of my car 3 and a half months later than I was expecting to (8 months wait in total!); at the time, there were horrendously long waiting times between ordering and getting a confirmed build date, and cars being built and delivered.

The dealer also agreed to cover the cost of a cam-belt change, MOT and 1/2 the cost of a major service which became due after my original indicated delivery date by the dealer - costs that I wouldn't have been faced with if my car had been delivered when I was expecting it to be.

The guaranteed part ex price meant that apart from having to put fuel in it, I had a few months depreciation-free, low cost motoring
