G'day from Australia
« on: 21 May 2013, 11:15 »
Ive just moved to London from Australia (well, with a "short" 2 year detour via Ireland) as of Saturday afternoon. This move has been 10 years in the making, but finally got here!

Less than 24 hours in I went out and bought a car. Ive got myself a Mk6 GTD in candy white, 61 reg/MY12 (according to VIN), < 14000 miles. Had been keeping an eye on it for a month or so before I got here and it had come down in price enough so I went and snapped it up. Pick up is this Thursday and I cant wait after taking it for a test drive!

I didnt have a car in Ireland, so Ive been itching to buy one for about 2 years. I fell in love with the Golf after having one as a hire car for work in Dublin (1.6 TDI.) It just looked magical in white, build quality was excellent, and performance was decent. Since then Ive been trying to get Golfs as rental cars when I travel for work (which I do a lot of) and every time I drive one I feel at home, and when I dont I am just reminded of all the reasons why I like them so much. I did manage to get a TSI DSG in The Netherlands once, but I still think Im a manual guy.

Looking to do a couple of retrofits to mine as it is missing a couple of things I wanted, so I will take notes and photos and put them together in some how to guides to share.

Finally took delivery today, 2 days later than expected, and almost not at all in time for the weekend!

Had to wait for a bank transfer for the remaining balance since I couldnt pay off the full amount on my debit card. Was starting to plan my weekend around train journeys.

But, its finally here, and Im happy!

Reasonably standard I guess, but heres a couple of pics:

Exterior:

Interior:

I dont plan to make any changes to the appearance (I like it just the way it is!), just to add/change the following on the inside:

  • RCD510DAB
  • Bluetooth
  • Cruise control

That will then be my dream car.
