RPM get stucked in 2000 and doesnt go down HELPHi,
I've got a GIII and in a really frequent basis, the motor itself speeds up de revs up to 2000, and it gets stucked there, as if he 'thought' it was 1000rpm, usually when the car is idle.

Suprisingly, i discovered that if I put the 3rd gear, the rpm would go down again to 1000 and stay there.

any clues  !

Hmmm interesting use of english there but i take you are saying that your idle is stuck at 2000 rpm  ?

Check your hoses for a leak .

what it makes you write the lack of practice in english!

i will then check the hoses in the engine, but why does it get fixed when i put the 3rd gear?

like adyh said check all vacuum hoses for leaks, and if they're ok check the ISV is working if your car has one.

i've had these problems myself...

p.s. how is your car idling in 3rd?

engine load will bring the idle down no matter what gear you're in once u lift the clutch

what i mean with the 3rd gear, is that with out accelerating, if i lift a little bit the clutch, and then I step in again the idle goes back to normal.

I'll try to look for those hoses and ISV, but if some one has a pic of how each thing looks like!!

how do i clean (if i find it) de ISV?

so basically what i said :)  higher gears will put more load on the engine making the rev's drop. on mine the rev's would sometimes drop below the high idle on their own.

don't worry about the ISV for now.. first off just work out which pipes that go into/out of the engine _dont_ contain coolant.. and check for tears and holes.

btw is your car an 8v or a 16v.. ?
