Chipexpress diesel tuning for the new Mk7 GTD?
« on: 22 May 2013, 09:52 »
First off I'm new to all this so be kind [noob alert]

Just starting to do my research for the best remap on my new Mk7 GTD DSG when it arrives (once past the running being period).

Do any of you have any recommendations?

I'm liking the ease of fit/un-fit of the Chipexpress unit and the price £395.

Are they're better units for a similar price?

I want something I can very easily de-activate when the car goes in for warranty work or dealer servicing (and that can't be detected).

My criteria is not necessarily out and out power but a combo of increased power, deeper torque and slightly better fuel economy.

Cheers fellas

Personally I would avoid any of the plug in box modifications.

I have already registered my interest with our very own "The Doc" at Carbon Tuning.

I would rather wait for a remap that is backed up with real research and development. that can be tailored to your own requirements.

tuning boxes tend to do little more than increase boost and this worries me regarding long term reliability.

I believe revo / superchips bluefin /apr will also produce remaps for the mk7 that can be removed prior to service and then reloaded again afterwards.

I've had all my VW's remapped and never had any problems when it comes to service. i dont even bother taking it off.

I do recall my APR map getting wiped after VW applied a software update to my Edition 30 but awesome Gti store just added the remap again at no charge.

If you buy a cheap box then yes you will have problems

I supply high quality boxes alongside remapping and I have yet to have anyone report a problem

People go for boxes due to the fact the latest ECU's require open heart surgery to get around the security protocols and don't want to run the risk of being found out so to speak

Im sure in a few years time it will come full circle again as the protection protocols will be 'broken' allowing tuners to remap via OBD

End of the day its your choice
