Help !!!
The story so far; needed new exhaust cam and hydraulic lifter. Got the bits off Ebay.

Put them in, sorted. My mate looking at some wiring that goes down the back of the engine, this is perished. Pulls the wires the car stalls.
Will not start.

So far we've bought/replaced coil and module, fuel pump relays, crank sensor and finally ECU.

The car starts for 5 seconds and cuts out. we've checked the fuel the spark all are OK.

Has anyone go ANY ideas....... :angry:javascript:void(0);

Did you get anywhere with your mates Audi, I was referring to a third party immobilizer. It may be the same thing ???

a mate at work had no end of trouble like this with his mk3 16v, after replacing most of the parts you have said you have he still had same probs, but it was intermitent, could be 5 seconds could be 5 mins etc, but same prob, after alot of money and alot of 'off the road time' with various garages the fault was put down to the ecu, apparently they are a common fault, he got one off egay which was the same, (some one selling one that had been removed for obviously the same problem) in the end his original ecu was sent to 'bosch' i think for repair, came back a week later (and £128 more cash) repaired and the car hasnt had a problem since.....

sounds similar, but who knows..

Fellas,

The thing is, once started it runs pretty sweet. I've got keep starting the thing, as I see it dying move the ignition key to start again.
Sometimes it takes 5 attempts sometimes it'll start after 3. My mate thought it may be the catalyst damp (with petrol) through the the repeated annoying attempts to start the **kin' thing.

I did 40 miles, one lap of the M60. Hammered it, took it easy, 100 mph in third, you know the sort of thing.

Got home, stopped it and it did the same **kin' thing.....................................aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhh !!!!

No, it's the standard one so can't be/is very hard to get around. Weve just ordered a new key for it and will have to take it to Audi to be recoded. Could do it ourselves with the vag com but they don't give out the key codes anymore!

Dom MK3,

Good man, I owe you a pint.

Have had the keys recoded. £50 VW main dealer in Stockport (SmithKnightFay to give them a plug).

Sorted.'kin immobilizer, it's a daft design though because it will start eventually, even when the codes don't match.

Thanks again
