PD & non PD oil

hi all. when i had my 1.9 asv 110 cambelt changed i had the garage change the oil aswell. the guy mentioned something about it being a pd engine and using pd oil. i now see that it not a pd engine and uses non pd oil. so if he has put pd oil in it, can i top up with non pd oil or does it have to be pd oil. as the oil is low and needs topping up.

PD oil is 10w-40. Have a look in your log book, I do not know of the top of my head.

As long as the viscosity is the same, there shouldn't be any harm in doing a top up. If you are putting a larger volume in then it would be better to swap out for the non PD stuff.

I think it is something to do with the chemical structure in regards to the actual difference.

yeah gonna do a oil change, i tried today but counldn't get the sump bolt out. the garage is doing it tomorrow and i'm bringing my own oil and filter. should the oil filter cap screw off or do i need to use an oil filter removal tool?

There is a 'special' tool to do it but I imagine the garage will have one that will fit. If not you can always pick one up from Halfrauds for £8. Make sure you get a replacement sump bolt, especially if you are struggling getting your old one out.
