Hi

First of all I would like to say hello to all of the members. Is my first post in here.

I am getting my way to buy a MK5 GTI. I am really fancy going for DSG gearbox as I really did enjoy it on a test drive. There is not so many DSG for sale and are quite expensive but that should also be an advantage when selling car.  More or less I know what to pay attention on when buying. My budget is up to 8.000 GBP - might stretch it to 8.500 but would rather not :) Got few questions, I think only people who know those cars can aswear to.

1. As the subject states - within my budget I can buy either 05 / 55 plate with lowish mileage ( around 45k - 60k ) or 56 to 57 plate but with mileage range from 75k to 90k or more of course. Now the question is what is actually more viable option? I will be looking for a car with FSH - preferable VW.

2. I am planing to keep this car for few years and what comes with it - drive it :) So if I would go for 70k-85k mileage and put another 15k on the clock - how hard it would be to sell GTI with over 100k on the clock? Are people scared off those kind of mileage, especialy when it comes to "performance" cars? Personally I am not scared of high mileage VW's - I do own a 02 Passat TDI ( 130 )with 180k and for last 7 years no problems at all apart from alternator that packed up and regular service. But  that's my opinion, what about your experience when it come to 100k and more mileage on GTI and problems with a resale after few years?

3. I have heard there were some changes in 2006 when it comes to some details in GTI? Anyone knows what exactly was it and should I be bothered with this?

4. Does the spec really matters when it comes to resale? What are desirable options?

5. Any other genuine advice?

I know a lot of my concerns are resale related but that's that kind of guy I am - always few years in future :P

PS

I am really sorry for any mistakes I made, English is not my native language. Hope you will understand :)

Best regards

IMO having owned a 55 plate...go for as late a model you can.

However buy on condition not mileage and a full service history is a must imo. Obviously the risk of wear and tear is greater on higher mileage but this is offset by the lower buying price...swings and roundabouts.

I don't think resale values will be as big a deal if you are planning on keeping the car for a few years?

Options I think would aid a sale: Leather/MFSW/Xenons/18 Inch Monzas/RNS 510 - a great upgrade but pricey.

Many of the items can be retrofitted.

Hi. Thanks for your input.

I think you got me slightly wrong, I am not bothered about resale value but more likely about what is it nice to have to sell the car later on easier.

About those 18" Monza - heard terrible stories about corroding and very  expensive repairs after kerbing. What MFSW is?

So as far as I got it right it should be better to get 56 / 07 plate with 75k on clock then 55 plate with 45k-50k?

Do you have any experience/thoughts about selling car like GTI  with 100k mileage on the clock?

Ok I understand.

Any wheel with a polished surface like Monza's will suffer if kerbed or exposed to corrosive elements. The 17's will let the car down imo.

MFSW - Multi Function Steering Wheel

I would choose the 56/07 plate with proper mileage, it's nicely broken in at that mileage.

Maybe the 55 plate has been grannied around town...

I sold my car with 65k to get a MK6. There will always be buyers for these cars.
