It has been keyed!!!!
« on: 29 April 2013, 11:06 »
Hey everyone

So not a great end to what was a great weekend really. I had parked my car near my friend’s house that I was staying with for the weekend. Anyway when I got home and opened up the passenger side door to grab my stuff, I noticed the whole length (front lights to rear lights) had been keyed/scratched.

Surface to say I was not happy, (I also noticed my windscreen had a huge crack in it at the same time, it doesn’t rain but it pours right) Anyway I got out a bucket and wash mit and cleaned the area that was scratched to get a proper look and to be fair its not that deep, or at least it doesn’t feel that deep. So i got out the Auto Glum super resin polish and gave it a good rub over and it has made it look a whole lot better. You can only really see the scratch if you go really close to the car now.

My question is, if I went over it again with the super resin polish, but this time with an electric wax/polish machine I have will that be enough to get rid of it completely, or will it need a better polish? Also if I polish it again do I need to then seal/wax the area?

Sorry I didn’t take any pictures, I was too caught up in the fact that my car had been scratched to think about that.

Any advice would be great though.

You'll need to cut it and then build it back up. I'd pay someone who has a polisher to give it a good going over. I'd be amazed if there isn't someone near you that could assist, shame you're s far away otherwise I'd have a go.

Have you reported the damage to the police ? You never know someone maybe saw something or someone caught doing this to other cars in the area ,

Try and post some pics and I'll repost them on the Waxamomo forum to see what they suggest, or join yourself as their maybe someone on there that could help, they're a good bunch on there.

Hi guys, firstly thanks for your replies and thanks for the offer of help (shame about the distance)

I will try and get some pictures up when I have a chance, to be fair the Super Resin polish seems to have done a pretty good job, it is hardly noticeable now. Might show up more when I give the car a good wash.

If I go over the scratch again with the polish, should I also look to wax or seal the car when the jobs complete?

Yes but I'd be surprised if Super Resin would be doing anything other than putting a shine on ya car?

The SRP will only fill the scratch it wont remove it, so it will like it did before as soon as you wash the car.

You would need to use a cutting compound with a machine polisher. I have no experience with this so probably best to post on a detailing forum such as detailing world for more accurate advice.

when u run your finger nail over the scratch does it catch?

If it does then the best you can do it heavy cut and refine so its less noticeable. this wont get rid of it but it will be quick fix.

As has been said earlier SRP will only fill the scratch.

i feel you pain tho cos some threw a brick at my old car and it cost me £150 to get it fixed when i was already skint.

You may be able to do a fine wet sand if polishing/machining doesn't get it out. Be surprisesd what a pro' or serious amateur can do. I wet sanded the rear panel on the last Mk5 to get out a deep scratch.
