Brake discs question
« on: 26 April 2013, 12:59 »
The last time i bought some pads for my 8V GTI, I was told to bring them in so the shop keeper could match them up. Well he matched them up and came back with the answer that i have Golf MK4 front pads. So he gave me them and i fitted them. Job Done. only thing was i had to chop off the wire for the sensor.

Now the problem is, i'm needing some discs and i've done abit of search to find that the MK4 use 288mm discs. But these sit 6mm further in.

Now my question is which discs does my car take, i dont want to buy some and find out there wont fit.

Break down, so you all understand

MK3 288MM Discs
MK4 288MM Discs (These sit 6MM further in)

MK4 Pads fit my MK3 GTI

Any ideas. Would it be better, to take off my dsics & pads, go to shop and match them up lol

The calipers are the same.

You just got standard mk3 288 brakes.

The mk4 312 setup still uses the same caliper as the mk3 288mm, just different carrier and disc.

So just get standard brakes mate

And I wouldn't be surprised if he charged you more for mk4 pads

Lol cheers for that. I'll just get MK3 288 discs and get MK4 Pads. Is that right?

I'm not sure, as long as I get the right part, first time round. I'll pay a few quid more lol
