Instrument Panel Back Light?
« on: 16 August 2013, 20:24 »
Hi All,

This is probably a question for one of the lucky few who have their GTI already.

With the head lights / side lights all set to the off position. Is the instrument panel
a) lit at night time?
AND
b) lit in the day time?

My current car (Audi) annoyingly has a safety feature (which in fairness does its job) whereby the instrument panel isn't lit the moment it starts to get a tiny bit dark. This is to force you to either put your lights to auto, or put them on to enable the back light.

I just find it annoying if I'm driving down a road with a few big tree's hanging over it the instrument panel is harder to see as it isn't backlit but full on day time so its not necessary to have the head lights on.

Kind of hoping this safety feature (aka annoyance) wasn't on the golf

My Scirocco always has the needles lit up when the lights are off, but nothing else in the dials. You can adjust the sensitivity of the autolights in VCDS if you think they are coming on too early (there was some opacity value you altered if I remember correctly).
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

My mk6 is the same as the OP's Audi; instruments illuminated in bright daylight and when the lights are on. In poor daylight, only the needles are illuminated, prompting you to switch your lights on.

You need to have a look at some of the many pictures around here and other forums mate! :D  No it's all white now, not even white and red like the mk6.

Cheers Jimble, yep I should've searched  :embarrassed:

Passengers always comment on the blue dash lights, I guess that crisp white look is more fitting these days though

Didn't mean that in a nasty way bud, i used to love the blue in my mk5 and thought i'd hate the white in my mk6 but it did make the blue look dated very quickly and really like the white and red, having sat in a 7 it looks a lot more crisp now which i'm really looking forward to! 8)
