FAULTY CD CHANGER?? or encrypted CD's????
« on: 04 August 2005, 00:31 »
Hi folks, my recently bought 2000 golf has a VW boot mounted 6 CD changer. Problem is, it only plays some of my CD's. Mainly the older ones - so no Coldplay.

Is this due to some encryption on newer CD's? does anyone have the same problem? works fine on my older CDs

Or is my player faulty? is it easy to replace with a cheap halfords changer? will it just plug straight in?

Thanks... music in my car is seriously limited!

weird one!!! are your newer cd's originals or copies?? some of the older bootchangers wont play cd-r and cd-rw, dunno why but they wont. ive got a sony 6 disc changer in mine, i think it was about £109 including the interface required to run it on the standard vw gamma head unit, there a piece of cake to fit!!!!!

As far as I know encryted cd's are only to stop people playing / ripping them into mp3 format on there pc, and does not stop them from being played in any cd player.

It may be worth trying a lens cleaning disc to clean the lense on the cd player.

The reason older cd players wont read copied discs and cdr / cdrw is due to a different more tolerant type of laser being needed to reed the discs

the changer in my mk4 is the original vw one (1999 model) and plays cdrs fine, probably got a dirty lens but its worth reading the manual because im sure these things come with a massive warranty !
