PD 150 turbo trouble
« on: 29 April 2013, 19:10 »
Hi all, I've never really been one for going on forums but I'm hoping that I will get the help on here I really need. I've got a feeling the turbo has gone on my beloved golf gttdi 150 and as I am not very mechanically minded I'd like to pick your brains before I get ripped off with garage repairs for my golf. Here are my cars symptoms and hopefully some of you knowledgable guys can shine a bit of light on this for me, yesterday morning I started the car up as normal drove literally 800yrds down the road there was no power from the engine at all struggling to go above 30mph then all of a sudden I heard a bang in the engine bay and saw a hell of a lot of smoke come out the exhaust the car started coughing and spluttering and literally struggled to move as if the engine was choking itself. I managed to turn the car round in the road and steadily drive it home as I was only round the corner but it was kangerooing all over the place and still lots of smoke coming out the back end. Any ideas please??? Is it the turbo that's gone as I suspect???

Posted in the wrong section, but hey ho!
You need to get this sorted asap, you have just described the symptoms of a forthcoming meltdown! DO NOT start the engine again!
I would suggest towing the car to a Garage, and letting them diagnose the problem!
This is a reality... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg4YSk7aL8k&NR=1&feature=fvwp

Oh, and welcome to the Forum btw...

looks like the turbo let go, oil seals id say then the rest of it kinda swallowed itself. thing is with this is it will have dumped loads of oil down the exhaust and into the boost hoses and intercooler which will want clearing out before starting it up again. bit wierd it made a bang though, they usually just let go and thats it really!
i think i love you.....
