Raditor Fan
« on: 16 April 2013, 20:01 »
My 8v mk3 golf has developed a fan problem when sitting in traffic coming home from work I didn't notice but my temp was at 110 it did go back down to 90 I checked the fan wires by probing for a live the fan cut in the electrical plug to the fan is fine but the actual fan unit were the plug sits in has become wobbly I have to wriggle it to get the fan on so i am going to buy a new fan does it have to be a front end job I have mechanic background but I gave it up for another job can you take the back shroud of without removing the front end and disconnecting water hoses and how does the fan unit attach to the rad is it a bolted on or does it have to screw into the radiator fins like I have seen that on a w reg seat (sorry for long post but I just wanted the heads up on how much work is involved)

lol it sucks I know I am typing on my phone so it does not always come out right I apologise I should double check before I post and fill in the missing bits :P

From that image the fan motor itself is held onto the cowling, so it looks like I have got to remove the radiator to gain access to the motor thank you for the image
