Replacing brake hoses and what equipment is needed
« on: 03 August 2005, 14:52 »
Hi guys

There have been a few theads mentioning brake hoses and I wanted to check how easy it is replacing them before I go out and buy all the neccessary gear.

So far I know I need for 88 GTI 8v
GOODRIDGE BRAKE KIT G2 GTI GOLF MK2 GTI (6 line) from Eurocarparts part#. 993446030 - is that the correct one and it's braided right? Also I understand you need a 6 line if you have rear discs, so 2 at the back, 2 to the front and the other 2 are for?

brake pipe spanner - where to get one online perhaps? Some tools shops near me seem sparse or just plain c.rap.

Bleed kit, do Halfords still do that Eazi-bleed one or does someone know of somewhere online I can order it from?

New fluid for when I drain the old fluid out.

What else do I need to be able to do this job?

Also how easy a job is it as i'm a complete newbie when it comes to anything mechanical really but I can follow instructions well

you will need pretty much everything you've said.

the other two hoses in the kit go by the rear beam bushes as this moves up and down. have a look you'll find it!

brake pipe spanner can be bought from any decent auto factors or indeed halfords.

halford do the eezi-bleed kit, i bought one a few months ago!

you may need some new bleed nipples as when i did mine some of my connections were so rusty/crappy that i ended up cutting them off. be carefull though as some of the new nipples don't sit as well as the originals and can leak slightly.

its not too hard, soak everything with wd40 and work logically. i replaced all my hard lines as well as they were a bit sh!tty too. bleeding is the hardest part to get right but it should be fine with the bleed kit.
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post
