So today I decided to take the seats out as forum member brill has kindly donated new seats from his MK3 along with lots of trim. (thanks for that).
I used the opportunity to remove some of the trim and take a look under carpets...as one of them sometimes gets damp....
So I was surprised to find a number of rubber grommets..(looks like one way valves or drain holes?) After reading on the net these are put in after the painting process..is that right?
I have never seen so many of them and have no idea why there are so many.
Anyways I have a few questions...are there any aftermarket screw in replacements???
,,,
A couple of them look like they are just letting water in around the edge, will some silicone be good enough to hold them for awhile?
Or should I just remove them all and cover the holes with some sort of paste....
None of the metal is actually rusted through...but one of the holes has some rust due to stagnant water..(just superficial though and the actual opening is not affected..)
Just wondering what solutions people have used to stop the flow of water coming into the car...
I noticed that on some of them on the opposite side they are caked in mud etc...and have really lost their purpose...
The one grommet was half gone...
Does the dealer sell these grommets? Maybe they can be replaced by something else by chance?
Or should I make my way to the scrappy and just fish em out along with some good insulating material...
