so im thinking of going down the diesel route as i have a mk4 golf 1.8t but i dont want to stray from the mk4 ( gt tdi ) do you think i could pretty much just swop one for one or do you think i would be stupid to ask as i know they hold the value a lot better that the 1.8t

If you were to get a swap, expect to get a Derv with high mileage! Ones with light miles on the clock hold their value well because of how long the engine will keep going for, and you'd be needing to chuck money their way plus your car!

I made the change from the 1.8T to the 1.9GTTDI 115PD and I don't regret it, as I have more pennies for mods!

Unless you do a lot of miles (over 10k per year) a diesel wont be cheaper.

Urban myth strikes again

Yes it will probably cost you money to change as the dervs hold their value but the fact you'll get well over 100 miles more to the tank will soon pay for itself

What I was thinking. The extra mileage is huge in some cases, and diesel is almost the same price as petrol....

when i last worked it out, if i sold the petrol and bought an average priced diesel, it would take me 2/3 years before i even broke even (that took into context insurance too cause for some reason its more expensive for me to insure diesel cars :S ) and i do quite alot of miles.

Shop around. I'v seen it regularly 5p difference. £2.50 extra to fill a tank, but maybe 200 miles extra?
