I contacted the AutoDab supplier (Connects2) and they said "AutoDAB will work with the RNS510 unit".

Halfords stock the AutoDab, and if you're brave enough, will fit it for £35. I definitely want DAB in my GTi (with RNS510), just haven't got round to it! I miss it, cos my last car (Kuga) had it as standard.

Fitted an RNS 315 DAB with built in BT to my 2012 Cabriolet with to many probs (my original radio had DAB and separate BT under seat.) I did have to get some stuff turned on and of with VCDS, all you would need is two extra aerials DAB and GPS and like  the others said you would need to wire a mic. Mick
Thanks, food for thought. Will the existing mic not work? I have the GPS ariel already with the RNS 510.
I would just need to run a DAB screen ariel.

That's interesting! All their dealers state that they only guarantee it will work with the RCD 510 and 310 etc.
Tempted to try one and see.
Don't think I'd want Halfords fitters near my car!!
It can't be hard to fit and I managed to instal the RNS 510 easily enough and also a stealth Pure Highway instal in my other car.
I think it only says it will work with the RCD on the Halfords website too...

On the halfords Q&A section someone has asked if the AutoDab will work with RNS510, and they've responded it should work fine.

Let us know how you get on - I'm interested in the same product too, so your feedback will be useful.

dabonwheels.co.uk are very highly recommended. Top service.
AutoDAB trial fitted today and works fine with RNS 510. A few 'setting up' things still need ironing out as the menu is scroll through only but it all works well and even the text scrolling seems to work on both the headunit and MFD.
I'm just trying to figure out the radio stations at the moment as it finds 35 but I can access them all. Probably something simple.
Will do a full thread on it when I've got everything sorted.

Good news.  So a few questions....

1) was it easy to fit yourself (I'm assuming you remove the RNS510 surround, remove some screws, and that's it?)
2) have you fitted the windscreen aerial, and how does it look? Any pics would be nice.
3) I know the sound quality will be FM rather than DAB, but what's your verdict on the sound quality?

To be honest I only miss Radio 5 Live and flicking thru the Absolute Radio channels. As long as I can get those I'll be happy. Since getting the Golf I've realised I'm too old for Radio 1 and too young for Radio 2. They need to launch a Radio 1.5......

Cheers.

1) Yes, easy enough to fit, will do a thread on the subject when I'm back from my travels testing the unit out the next few days
2) Yes, pics will follow as above. It looks a bit 'add on' but there's no way of hiding it!!
3) Not fully tested the unit over the moorland hills yet but will be doing so in the next few days. Sound quality with Dynaudio is actually pretty darn good and R5 Live is soooo much clearer than AM

BBC 6Music is the station for those of us who are too old for Radio 1 and too young for Radio 2, particularly if you like Indie stuff like I do. XFM and NME are also ok. At least you have an option to flick around the stations nice and easily with the DAB
