Brakes help/ advice

Hi guys
well after moving house my attention returns to my beloved Golf!
needing some more advice,
I am replacing all brake discs and pads, x drilled at the front (239mm) and standard discs at rear with green stuff pads all round, goodridge brake hoses and changing rear brake caliper due to handbrake being seized. also changing rear wheel bearings at the same time.
what would your advice be regarding changing brake master cylinder, should i upgrade to 16v cylinder or just use standard 8v one?
any input would be appreciated

as your sticking to the same sized discs i'd keep the original. its up to the job, you only need a bigger one when pushing the bigger piston on 256 or 280mm calipers.

if i was you m8 i wouldnt use greenstuff pads either... ive had mintex c-tech greenstuff and tarrox.. and tbh the ones on there now are main dealer 15quid ones and tarrox discs and its the best its ever been.

if i were u id invest in a set of braided brake lines. they make a world of difference

Goodridge braided hoses made a big difference on my otherwise stock braking system.

thanks for you input guys, gambit and Organisys don't think you have read fully my original post  :grin:I am replacing brake hoses with braided ones.
kingsmk2 what was the problem in your experience of greenstuff pads, the main reason for choosing greenstuff is reduced brake dust.
what about brake fluid dot 4 be good enough ar should I use something else?

Just doing a search and came across this post , thought i would reply ....

Dot4 will be more than suitable for you unless you're doing a few track days, other than that you'll be fine. With regards to greenstuff pads... not the best product available for the price really , braking performance does seem to deteriorate quite quickly. I have found a good pad to be the Pagid FR pad although drawbacks are that it does get dusty ... but i would rather have better braking and clean my car a couple of times extra than having my brakes not perform when they should. Available from Awesome for about £45 or so or plenty of other decent retailers.
