I didn't think you needed VCDS for that???

You can do it on early cars with a combination of holding the indicator stalk, flashing and turning the ignition on and off (I can't remember exactly, but it's in the handbook) On later cars, there is an option in the lighting section of the vehicle setup menu in the DIS.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

It wil depend how old his car, I turned my 2010 Golf DRLs off with the same method dubber36 suggested. Newer Golfs 2012> need VAG-COM\VCDS.

Perhaps he would like to add his car spec to his signature then we all know what he drives?

You can try Dan Taber in Belvedere, a VW speciallist, corner of Mayplace Road/Barnehurst Road,  01322 525830
Or Sanspeed at corner of Standard Road/Lion Road in Bexleyheath, 0208 304 2841

You are quite correct.
