Carpet repair options?

Hiya
Discovered some muppet has cut a carpet mat sized section of the rear carpet to dry out a water leak on my Passat. Any suggestions on repair or replacement, once its dried out and water leak fixed?
Car is new to me, hence current state.

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

Obviously replacement is best option but that is a lot of work to do.
Cheeapest would be to get a couple of mats, one to cut up and fill in the void the other to cover it.
