Sticky Mk5 boot release - ideas please.
« on: 13 January 2013, 18:55 »
Chaps, my boot opening mechanism (the VW logo'd piece) prefers to remain sticking out by about 30 degrees after use. A quick push will restore it to the proper flush position, but it bugs me when I forget and find it in the semi-erect position after a drive.

I've tried lithium grease and WD40 to no avail.  Is there a simple fix, or do I need to strip it down? Or even worse, replace it?

Ideas please.

WD should fix this, but it probably not reaching the seized part of the pivot point, try removing the inner tailgate trim, and doing it again from the inside, once free, give a good shot of white spray grease
BMW 1 series have exactly the same problem... Bloody Germans!

I have one thats stiff, its on bench soaking in WD but no luck yet, so might have to see about stripping it down, if I do I'll take some pics of how it comes apart and where the corrosion is thats causing it
