Usb cable not charging
« on: 06 January 2013, 23:55 »
Recently bought a Usb cable to extend my current charger for the phone, however the cable is not charging, it seems to be a transfer cable only. Does anyone know of any cables that will charge my phone just as well as the original cable?

It depends how long the cable is.
With some cables over certain lengths (I think 5metres), they won't pass power down the cable.

You'll want something like this:
Amazon linky

Or you could just get a mains power extension.

Cable is 1.8m long, this is the one I bought

It's a bit stupid paying £10 for a cable to be honest, for that price I can buy a blackberry charger, which has longer cable and same micro USB conenctor.

Some USB aren't designed to take much voltage Khare I've got a few and some only are used as data ones.

Ive had the exact same issue with a couple of cheapo cables ive purchased from ebay.  PC or car charger will recognise they're plugged  in but wont charge. Buy again...

It's the second cable I've bought with no luck though

I think I'll pop into an electronics shop and ask there, that way if it doesn't work I can send it back.

It's to do with how many amps the cable can handle.  I've found the vast majority of my USB extension cables won't transfer a charge either  :undecided:
