Pesky Driver Door Handle

My Mk3 has decided to develop an incredibly annoying fault. 

I unlock my doors using the central locking, all the doors seem to unlock, the pins pop up......but the door handle on the drivers side does not seem to work on both the inside and out.

The curious thing is that the outside handle works once every so often.  This also happens occasionally on the passenger side with the inside handle.  (I was held hostage earlier as neither side worked)

I currently have to get in and out the car via the passenger side.  I can hear the central locking work but the handle refuses too.

Any ideas???

Had a simular issue ages ago. My pas door wouldnt open from inside or outside. So i took the locking mech out stripped it down and grease the biatch and put it back together. Now you dont need to use any force on the handle. Its..... sooo light
