Quick fault code question
« on: 02 January 2013, 21:42 »
Scanned my 16v gti tonight and got one fault code for the engine.

17978- which is engine start blocked by immobilizer

But my engine starts and runs fine, is this just an old fault code that needs deleting? Or am I missing something?

Also I tried to scan for abs fault codes ( as my abs light is on) and the scanner, started to scan and then said linking error. Can anyone help me with this? I'm using one of those orange scanners that cost about£20/£30 btw

Cheers!
josh

Not sure on the ABS question, but the immob one just clear it. Most likely an old code.

I get the immobilizer code every time I scan, I clear it, drive the car for a week, scan again and it comes back..

Mine also has the Immo fault, but the factory immo has been removed on mine for a Cat1 alarm/immo system.

ABS could be a loose connection the the ABS module (If seperate?) or blown fuse?  I think theres 2 fuses for the ABS unit, one for the pump only and one for the whole system?

I use a vagcom and theres been a few times i've scanned my car and it brings up the same "engine start blocked by immobilizer"

I think thats normal because the immoboliser has prob kicked in, and the job of the immoboliser is to stop the car from starting...

But thats just what i think

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.
