SS brake lines with OEM GTi Callipers?
« on: 19 January 2013, 11:58 »
Hi all,

My question is have any of you GTi MK5 owners replaced the rubber brake lines in favour of Stainless Steel Braided ones from the likes of Goodridge and HEL with OEM Brakes?  If so have to noticed any improvement?

Thank you.

Darren

I changed to SS brake lines but can't quantify what improvement it made as I changed/uprated pads at the same time.
Without traction power is nothing!

Thanks.  What pads did you change to?

Unfortunately I can only echo Bacillus' comments. I uprated the lines to Goodridge SS but uprated pads and discs at the same time. I would think that if it is noticeable, the difference will be minimal at best.

I would save your money and uprate all at the same time or save your money altogether.

About two weeks after I had the brake fluid changed at VW, the pedal has no feel, I have to pump it to gain feel and it almost goes down to the floor.   My last two cars had the same problem, a week after the fluid was changed I had to pump the pedal to get the brakes to work. The car had brembo 4 pots front and rear on 330mm discs as standard.  I have now just grown to accept it.

Definitely air in the system, or a ridiculously high water content in you fluid >10% maybe?

The std lines aren't just rubber these days - they are ptfe with a rubber cover (I guess for protection against rubbing etc.. from the upright. No point really, apart from the ss lines look better.

Only real benefit they offer is extra protection for the lines, but usually by the time your brake lines get cut, the rest of the car is pretty well written off too.
