Well, I bought some 4x100 2-piece split-rim alloys that had a part refurb-the centres had been repainted and the lip part had been polished up. But becuase the centres were the wrong colour and the polished lips were not practical, I decided to get them re-painted in the colours I wanted. Then I noticed for some weird reason there was an extra valve hole in the outside of the centre pieces. Couldn't see any reason for that, so whether the centres were originally from 5 stud wheels and the lips/barrels had the valve holes in a differemt place? Anyway!
Went to the wheel refurb place and said about the extra valve holes and they said it would be tricky to weld them and would robably end up damaging/marking the surrounding areas, so they said they'd lug them with chemical metal. I showed them pics I had of the last same set of wheels I had and where the proper valve holes were in those wheels, so said it looks like the other holes need filling up and they agreed.
Anyway, after painting them and going to put them together, they rang me and said we're afraid there's a problem! They said the wrong holes were filled up and the ones left were the ones that should have been filled up! And then said we were only doing what was asked of us. That is kind of true, but they saw the pics too (quite why they are different from the other same wheels I ahd reviously, I don't know?), agreed and obviously I don't want the wrong holes filled up and hadn't thought of the split rim bolt holes might not line up! It's like if you're having building work-you might say, I want this wall knocked down, or a window put here etc, but if a proper building company know their stuff and you can't, shouldn't do that or it will cause problems, they'll tell you. Also being that it's their job to refurb wheels and they've done split-rims before, I thought they might have thought about it or checked first before filling the holes and ainting them?
Now I don't mind if they charge me the same price and are blaming it on me, but if they want the price + x2 for painting and filling them, I don't think that's really fair, especially being that there was no kerbing or damage that they need to do at all, so apart from the extra valve holes that needed to be filled, it was an easy job. It's not the cheapest job either-again being that there was no kerb damage that needed doing, I think they shouldn't really have charged extra for the extra valve hole filling.
Just wondered what you reckon?
