Tyres: for info really
« on: 20 January 2013, 16:28 »
Just wanted to share my experiences. I've always gone with conti sport contacts, initially the 2's then the 3's and now on the 5's. I have to say I find the 5's a much better tyre than the 3. Grip feels better and they are wearing well.
I've tried lots if other brands over the years on different cars but have liked the balance of grip, wear rate and Cost of the Conti's to stay with them.

Can anyone compare the Contis against Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric?

I reckon I'm just going to get 12k out of my fronts with the Goodyears

They are a good tyre though, I really like the rim protector feature so not sure how Continentals compare...the protector has saved my rims on several occasions.

I've heard rave reviews about the Conti 5's, but wear wise they seem to drop off heavily at around 12,000 miles.

I'm using the Avon ZZ3's with rim protectors, they've done 10,000 miles and have 4mm tread left, so I'll probably get 15,000 before I change them at around the 2mm mark.

Apparently Verdestein Ultrac Sessanta's are a great shout for heavy hatchbacks, reasonably priced and easily good for 15,000 miles.

I ran Goodyear on my previous mk5 and grip on launch was so much better than ps3s that are on now. Also a lot better in the wet. I got around 18,000  and I did push it. Not sure if the ed30 extra 30-40 BHP is the difference or what but disappointed in the wet with these ps3s

Both great tyres, once I get next set of wheels I'll be fitting the Conti's though.
