Bought a 16v, what would you recommend doing first?
« on: 14 November 2012, 20:40 »
Ok, sold my sorted 8v and now have a totally standard 16v, I'm getting some JOM coilivers after reading the recommendations on here which will sort that ridiculous ride height out, but is there one thing from experience you would do first, or something that gave you good results you wish you'd done earlier?

Witty replies welcome alongside constructive ones!

congrats on the sale, i hate selling cars as it can take a couple of weeks to get a sensible buyer. out on interest what made you buy the joms as they work out cheaper than the dampers/spings i was looking into. if you havent got one yet id buy an exhaust to enjoy that engine more

Cheers Tweed, those mods don't sound too expensive either which is good!

GolfGL, i would have been wary about buying coilovers for that price as well but there are plenty of people on here who swear by them for value for money, obviously they wont give you the the ride a £600 set will do but for that price im not complaining. I'd rather coilovers as well for being height adjustable, if your springs and dampers don't give you the height you want then you have to buy another set, with the coilovers you can keep tweaking it until you get the height you want. Take Tweeds sig pic for example, looks awesome!

A Jetex system is on the wish list by the way but will look at Tweeds suggestions first.

CAMBELT change!!
That is a must unless you have documented evidence that the cambelt has been changed in the recent past.

Dont bother with ARB if you go for the coilovers.

But the rest of what Tweed said yes.

My Friend had standard spring but an anti roll bar - i had AP coilovers (Not cheap) guess which one handled better? Both VR6

Get an anti-roll bar and everything Tweed has suggested. Actually with him this time

Also Jetex or Scorpion system, had both, both were awesome, i prefer scorpion myself though :)
