I am totally new to the whole forum idea and also new to owning my mk 1 golf gti cabriolet- (my absalout dream car) :)

Everything seems pretty sweeet on it at the moment its passed its mot and running fine,,

one issue none of the electrics inside the car are working no blower, no nterior light, no dash lights, and one dodgy uncontrolable wiper!

Ive got down in the passenger foootwell which is rather soggy and i can see that there is a little bit of water from the windscreen seal dripping down into the fusebox, which im sure is a regular issue with mk 1's of its age.

i have had someone out to look at it but as im a 20 year old chick im sure people are gunna try mug me off soo thought id jpoin up to get some honest advice from you guys. Any help would be muchly appeciated :)x

ok the fuse board has more than likely got soaked by water coming thru from the scuttle area. open bonnet and look at the area where the bonnet hinges are and you will see a trough like area below the windscreen, that is the scuttle, if that is full of water that is where the leak is, there are drain holes at either end of the scuttle with a rubber drain grommet in them these can get blocked with leaves and crud, clear these out. the other likely leak could be from the windscreen seal or from the holes where the cables run thru the bulkhead behind the fuseboard. what you need to do is get on ebay and get yourself a good secondhand fuseboard and exchange your one, its easier done with the dashboard removed.
its pointless trying to dry out the existing board as the damage is already done.
also you will need to get all the earth wires checked [  these are wires which are connected to the chassis ] in the engine bay and behind the dash
probably looking at 3-4hours to remove dash, exchange board and put it all back together again HTH
