well ive just got back, obviously it failed, wasnt too bad...

my headlamps have failed because they are apparently pointing the wrong way like continental lights, annoying since i bought them as genuine vw ones?!
rear brake pipes are corroded
exhaust emissions
wing mirror glass missing

advisories were front brake hoses
one tyre near limit
centre and rear exhaust leaking gas
both rear wheel bearings slight play
coolant leak
headlamp weak output

so the plan of action is I am going to the scrappy on Saturday to get another wing mirror as this one is broken, im going to stick the original headlamps back in for MOT, my local garage are going to do the brake pipes for £60 and fit a new centre and rear exhaust from Euro Car Parts.

after all that the air bag light wasnt even mentioned

Not a bad result.

New exhaust may not cure the emmissions problem though!
Have had great problems with my car in the past, until I found a tester that is an enthusiast and likes my car!

Could be anything. Lambda sensors , cat , coolant temp sensor ect ect , the mk3 doesn't have an engine management light , so may be worth getting that checked out if it still fails ( take it for a hard drive before hand make sure the car is hot an then get emissions tested

god im crapping myself now i could do £200 worth of work to get it through and could end up with a major problem with the emissions   :undecided: will see what my mechanic thinks. do everyday garages usually have an emissions tester or is it mainly just MOT stations?

any decent garage will have an emissions tester ,

if you ask on here for someone in your area with VAG com or an OBD tester they can check your fault code history out for you , im sure someone on here in your area will help you out for a beer !

least then if you know everything is tip top electricaly that controlls emissions your on to a good start for you , because then it could be an dirty air filter or spark plugs or something , hard to say without seeing the car but chances are its fine just wasnt tested hot enough (:

Sorry to scare you Nutter!
But didnt want you to think it was an easy fix as emmission problems on these cars can be a problem.
I truly hope yours isnt.
