Exactly my thoughts, if it doesn't feel right walk away as it's a lot of money to part with at the end of the day. As for the 32 it's just been one of those cars I have at somepoint wanted to own, and I do like them in MKIV guise. It's giving me food for thought as I want something refined and not something I am going to fettle with too much.

I know nothing about the MkV other than what I have read looking through posts on here, etc. Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for? I've had a skim through the search and found a few common faults as with most of the marks, just wanted a heads up about anything in particular I should look at..

Things to consider:

How important Modding will be...

Or how important Haldex is...

Is an Aldi S3 under consideration?

As for the MK5 - there are a lot of oil burners out there and it is not clear whether this is the way they are run in or poor engine design.

Sometimes the Exhaust Manifold or Wastegate Housing can crack on KO3s Turbo and as a result cant hold peak boost...This is applicable to GTI only as far as Im aware.

Most other issues are minor and economy is average.

The Edition 30 provides the most bang for buck and has large tuning potential but I feel this probably needs to be accompanied with handling mods.

In short I would be inclined to advise a warranty is selected as you can then scan the vehicle for problems picked up in VCDS or elsewhere on the vehicle (if present) and return to the dealer and have these rectified should the warranty be worth the paper its written on!
