another problem with my gti
« on: 27 August 2012, 21:28 »
so its been a while since ive managed to get on with anything on my cabby  (or post on here) but having a few hours here and there l8ly ive managed to go round and drag it out the garage to tackle the running problem out which i thought could be resolved with a simple service, man was i wrong. ive replaced plugs, leads, rotor arm and cap, oil and filter but ts still not running right. it seems asif its only running on number 1 cylinder as whn i pull the leads of of cylinders 2 3 and 4 it makes no differance, running realy lumpy and wont rev but after leaving it ticking over for a few mins it all of a sudden will run on all 4 and rev up to about 4000rpm sounding nice (for 5 seconds) then back to running lumpy . Does any1 have any ideas what it could be as its realy winding me up now lol

thanks in advance

I don't know what the age of your tank and fuel fill neck is, nor their condition but it has been known that if the insides are full of crud then you can end up dragging the crud through if run very low... I doubt anything has got to the injectors but it my be worth checking your filters. Also, I see you have changed quite a few ignition parts apart from the coil, is that OK?

check for spark on all 4 plugs first, if you have spark on all four then i would say fuel system is blocked some where, and if after changing filters and its still there then i would be looking at fuel pumps or metering head.
