Clocks problem...
« on: 01 October 2012, 19:24 »
Right since my conversion, have had a total ball ache with my clocks. Its within the standard wiring however.

Problem is-

ign on - All dash lights illuminate, MFA etc all work, fuel gauge goes up to level, temp goes off scale.

Start engine - Fuel and temp stay as before but dont move, revs go to idle but once reved dont move and speedo dosnt work. MFA goes blank and date + time reset. Illumination works however.

On turn of - Clocks go back to 00.00 time and reset trip

Now what i have done, i was told that pins 3 + 5 were ground in the 24 pin connector to the clocks, so what i did was ground these to the dash. This worked for rev counter and temp gauge. And the date + time wouldnt reset itself or loose memory, however fuel gauge wouldnt work. Checked all the wiring and sender to rule that out, all okay. so pointed to fault with something clock related as everything else is good. All fuses etc all been checked, and a known working set of clocks tried.

Got a new loom for the clocks and to see if it would cure it, but back to square one!!!

Being a right PITA now and was wondering if anyones got any ideas

Thanks in advance

Have you checked fuse 21? Speedo gets both 12V and ignition 12V, maybe one of the fuses has gone.

Otherwise would be worth checking battery voltage with an oscilloscope (if you got access to one, a cheap ebay miniDSO would do) when you're turning the ignition off. Last but not least since your temp and petrol gauge go haywire it could be that the voltage regulator has gone, this can be replaced (conrad or RS would stock these).
