Starting issue I'm getting sick off
« on: 29 September 2012, 23:30 »
I've posted before about this issue but never got any definitive answer.

Today, after work my car wouldn't start but was weirder than
usual this time. Usually my car when it fails to start will turn over for ages, kick in splutter revs bouncing everywhere and then cut out. Today though it just turned over but in 2 second intervals maybe? each time it stopped turning over the dash lights all went off and the headlights went out. (They were only on so I could see the rev counter)

It has a second hand battery fitted when I first got the car about 2 months ago but I wondered if there's a certain power rating the battery should be for a mk4 :/

I've already changed the temperature sensor and crank position sensor but its still happening. After a 12 hour shift at work the last thing I needed was to be pushing it out the way in a petrol station so a couple of chavs in a polo gti could get past :(

Any suggestions? I'm seriously considering an Audi a3 1.6 or mk3 golf at this rate.

Engine is s 1.6 SR 8v :p

Sounds like power issues, see if you can find a working battery to test on it, if its not the battery could be the alternator not transfering the charge.
