Oil coming from CV Joint

Please excuse my ignorance, as I have never owned a FWD car before, but here goes :)

I just noticed there is lots of oil all round the CV joint (Rubber boot right next to the passenger side front wheel).

I assume this is obviously not a good thing (you can tell already I'm a master here) but just any ideas of what it might be, and roughly how cheap it is to fix?

oil? if the cv boot is split it will spit out grease but i suppose if water has been creeping in it could become oily, i'd go over them checking for damage they aren't too hard to fix.

check the diff seal there is one in the middle of the output flange that spits gearbox oil into your cv boot bet that has failed did one on my bros car last week ps check your gearbox oil level

Me and my friend have had a proper look at it, and turns out the boot has just split, so should just be a matter of putting some fresh grease in and replacing the boot  :smiley:  hopefully  :lipsrsealed:

That is a common failure however in this case he's on about the other end of the drive shaft.

As long as it hasn't been split for too long and you still have some grease left in there then you should be ok. If you can do it yourself you're only looking at around £7 or £8 (I haven't had to do one for quite some time so don't hold me to that price) for a CV boot kit that comes with everything you need including grease. Getting the driveshaft out can be a PITA but its not rocket science and easily within the scope of most practical minded people.

What I will say is get it done ASAP as all the time you will be losing grease and once that all goes that CV joint won't last long............and then you are into more major expense!

It all looks very recent, and the CV boot is being done on Saturday  :smiley:

GSF are quoting about £5 for a new boot, which can't be bad  :laugh: I'm used to Nissan prices  :shocked:
