starter motor problems??????

hi guys can anyone help my mk3 gti wont start the starter motor keeps clicking and wont turn engine over i put a set of jump leads on from my van today and it started no clicking i can only think starter had it or could it be the battery any ideas would be helpfull as im not great with cars to be honest

Either flat battery or starter solenoid I assume..

If it started from a jump then it's a flat battery
