bigger inlet manifold

I have seen a flowed inlet manifold for sale for my '91 16v.  It is a 50mm item, and should be a straight swap for my old one.  It was a standard item manifold which I think has been BORED out.

Someone told me that by doing this to my STANDARD 16v, this will increase pressure on the head, and blow the head gasket when accelerating hard.

I cant see this being a problem simply by allowing more air to the injectors!!! Can anyone shed a light on this???

It won't make the head gasket blow. You will just get more air into the cylinders which should be a good thing as long as the fuel mixture is set up correctly.

Exactly what I thought!  Are there any downsides to using this new manifold?  Coz I thought it would only be worth doing in conjunction with polished/ported head and polished/ported exhaust manifold.

I plan to leave the rest of the engine pretty much standard, so this manifold should just give me a power increase, and I wont lose any reliability?

Pretty much yeah.

The 50mm manifold will give more power at high rpms, the smaller (46mm?) was used to increase torque at lower engine speeds. Fueling will not be a problem as the flow meter measures the amount of air the engine is using and fuels accordingly and you will not be near the max flow of the fuel system.

Yep, just don't turbo it without lowering the compression ratio.

it was an ebay auction item. I waited till the last 7 secs before the auction end, and placed a bid.  Then, someone bid 3 seconds after me!!!!

DAMN IT!

Lost it! I'm sure it will cost more than ?50 to have mine bored out, was a wicked item tho!
