Judder at high RPM
« on: 05 September 2012, 16:27 »
Hi guys,

I have recently tuned up my 1991 digifant 8v in accordance with rubjonnys guide as it wasn't running 100% and mpg was down. When checking the timing, I realised that it had been set to te TDC mark instead of the 6 degree one so I rectified this. When taking the car out for a test run, I gave it a bit of welly. When I hit about 5000 rpm in 3rd (I think it was 3rd) the car juddered violently. This kept happening on the drive back home both at high RPM as well as when stabbing the accelerator. The judder was non existent before adjusting the timing and I have recently taken the timing back to around 3deg BTDC which has stopped the judder.

Basically I just wondered what may have caused this and if my timing needs any further adjustment, maybe a previous owner moved a pulley at some point and has put it all out?

Also the car seems to struggle on startup, as if the starter is weak (especially noticeable when hot) which suggests too much advance to me?

If it matters, I run the car on v-power.

Thanks in advance for any responses
