Have some band-aid at the ready as you're knuckles will be mullered.

How did this go in the end?

I bought all 3 and then looked long and hard at that rear one. More than once. I did notice (at the scrapyard) that access was a whole lot better with the inlet manifold off.

Anyway - I bottled it and talked the local drive-in autocentre in to fitting them for me.... They quoted 1 hours labour but took 2 hours and we settled on 1 1/2 hours. Money well spent - what a b!tch of a job and I would have had a horrible day if I had tackled that on the drive with axle stands.

got mine all done lost most of my knuckles and my forearms are a tad battered, took longer than i thought it would as i sheared a bolton the left of the rear mount and i had to change gearbox mount aswell which was a hell of alot easier to do. all i used to do job was few chocks of wood to get car to a height i can get under and a trolley jack to lift engine. probably the last time il ever try playing with rear engine mount on a mk3 just easier to send it to a garage and let them squeal as they crash their fingers and knuckles. i also want to know why the hell vw use the tiniest bolts on something so essential
