Mk2 golf 8v Gti gearbox

basically blown an inch by inch hole in my gearbox, can still get all my gears without crunching, going too strip it down just too make sure. but thinking to weld the hole up and put the box back in, has anyone done this before? anyone know any cheap 8v gti gearbox's going cheap?

Just replace the gearbox, much easier option.

I'd be concerned as to what made it blow a hole!

They are so cheap and easily available, I'd just replace it. I've got a mk2 8v GTI gearbox here in lincoln for £30 if thats any good to you.

think you popped a diff (you must have been ragging the t1ts of it) or was on its way out. i also you can fit the DFQ & CHE gearboxes from the mk3 8v gti but they are known to drop a dif.
