Short Shift kit
« on: 04 October 2003, 18:28 »
Hi there. VW fan with a few questions for his beloved mk2 gti 16v.
1. Are Neuspeed shortshift kits any good and how hard
   and they too fit?

2. I want to buy crystal headlights but can you get
    crystal spots as well?

3. Can anyone recommend a good car respray company in
    Milton Keynes orCambridge.

Thanks for any info

I like my neuspeed kit. Shifts like a champ and has 2 positions (short and real short) :) Go for the weighted rod also. makes it shift super slick.

I'm very interested in the short-shift kit too.  My 2nd gear is sometines hard to find, and my gearbox feels like it's from an old transit van!

weighted shift rod will help it go into gear easier because of the increased intertia

short shift kit makes gear changes so sweet! get one & you'll wonder how you managed to do without one!!

Weighted shift rod is part number 1H0711183 11.55 +VAT from VAG

put your car in gear and then have a partner wiggle the gear lever while you look under the bonnet at the linkage. mine had alot of slop where the main gear rod coming from the gear lever meets the transmission linkage. It should have a ball about 25mm or so in diameter that sides in a notch in the main gear rod. if this is where the slop is then you will need to go to VW and get an new relay shaft VAG Part# 191711173B these seem to be a common problem in the MKII's as the rubber bit on the ball dries up and falls to pieces.

can you not just get the ball itself? or do u have to buy the complete relay shaft?

it's the whole relay shaft or nothing mate. I tried just getting the ball as 30 quid seemed a bit much for a couple bits of metal and a hard rubber ball but VW told me otherwise. Might be able to find it cheaper through eurocarparts though. Didn't try there.:)
