my 55 plate transporter is on 230000 and drives sweet as. Quick as f**k and never lets me down. Has some knocks and scrapes but its great.

I would buy another diesel with high miles

Car's need to be used, low mileages cars are just money pits. Rubber seals dry up and perish etc.

My Golf had 156k when I bought it and it feels as tight as a nut! Just a slight wheel wobble when accelerating through 40-55, I think this is down to the oversized spacers on the front. Admittedly though the car has had a new gearbox and top engine rebuild prior to me getting it!

I prefer high milers for sure. I've had a lot of mk2s, a GTD was on 217k when I got it, then I tuned the crap out of it, ran faultlessly on high boost and WVO. Also had a KR 16v on around 200k with no problems whatsoever. My last GL's donor car had 218k on it, I drove it home 30 odd miles and it was fine, and very very quick. Only thing I had to change was the tappets as they were rattley.

i've found below average miels cars to be troublesome, i'm weary of modern diesels there not as long lived as everyone thinks, then engines do ok but everything around them, turbo, dpf, egr  will fail but if i see all the OMFG bills in the service history i'll buy it anyway.

a lot depends on who it's been driven as well.   a car that has been driven hard from day one is a good buy if it's been maintaned as your not going to get meany age related fails asa all the wearing bits will be new ish,   buy a low miles car and drive it hard they tend to fall apart
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
