« on: 05 July 2012, 23:02 »
ive recently got my gti, must say i love it :) my previous car was a 1.6 16v i had fitted in it a bmc cda cai loved it so kept it................... now i think alot of you reading know where im going with this and yes ive already done it haha so my query is.... is it any harm having that cai designed upto 1.6 (i think) on my golf? what are my restrictions? any issues i could cause the engine? im trying to source the replacement filter for a golf gti that would replace the 1.6 filter in the cda housing but not having any luck!!

please help

from what I've seen BMC CDAs become restrictive even the proper fitment for a 1.8t when running a stage 1 remap. The 1.6 filter may have a smaller outlet as well being even more restrictive

I'd advise against a CAI...

They do sound good but the amount of dirt on them after only a few months is a fair amount and always the possibility of sucking in water. Stick with the standard airbox and if need sound drill some holes in the bottom part or a decent dry induction cone with a good air feed which doesn't need oiling preventing damaging the to mass air flow sensor.
