Try greenlight insurance, they cover performance cars (you might get away with covering an 8v gti ) they used to cover my 275bhp leon cupra r for £500 and im fairly young and from croydon. I am pretty sure i had an agreed value with them for £6,000.

Now im in the golf im only on third party fire and theft so even if i do have a crash im unlikely to get anything from insurance anyway. If the other party was at fault in a crash i think elephant said its worth £300. A shame really as its near mint with 51k on the clock and can guarantee you wont find one for £300 without rust and the low miles i have.

Heres hoping none of us crash

Sad really but I was quoted on a Mk6 only a few quid more than my 98 8v, must be to do with all the money they can make on fixing a new car......
Best to just drive round on 3rd party with protected no claims if you own a Mk3 of no real special interest.
Agreed cover is £15 or £30 (cant remember) on a £2k car with HIC.....so bit of a no brainer
