ECU - Do the really blow?
« on: 04 July 2012, 17:55 »
I have a Mk2 1.8 8V GTi Digifant II Golf, and have had issues getting it started.
Many people have told me it's a blown ECU, But realistically what are the chances that this can happen?
A few mechanics and even a University Engineer I've spoken to about this issue think a blown ECU is a load of crap.
But from what I've been told it makes the most sense for my Golf not working..

The gearbox earth did fall off when driving, and had attempted to start it several times (and bumped) before noticing the connection issue. Would this fry the ECU?

gearbox eath falling off  = ECU death

if you open it up youll see the bits that have gone black and crispy to
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

When an ecu blows the injectors  stay open causing the fuel pump to contently prime and there for cylinder flooding, best solution is to replace the ecu, take the spark plugs out turn it over so the excess petrol is blow out replace and making sure the earth on the e
gearbox is fine by cleaning up the connections on the gearbox and also tracing the earth back to the battery just to see what state the wire is in. Check the head earths also just in case.

Cheers
